What is a Resourced Provision?

Denholme Primary School was the first school in Bradford to have a  Resourced Provision (RP), formally known as a Designated Specialist Provision (DSP), for children with Autism. It was established in 1993. The Orchard (RP) caters for up to 8 children with autism across the primary age range. We have a dedicated and experienced team of staff including a teacher and several teaching assistants. The provision also has regular contact with a Speech and Language Therapist.

The main aim of the Provision is to support children so they are able to have opportunities for inclusion within mainstream school. The children follow National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies, as well as the other areas of the National Curriculum where this is appropriate. Children can work individually or in small groups in a distraction free, calm environment, or as part of a small group within their mainstream class. The amount and type of inclusion in mainstream depends entirely on the needs of the individual children, however all children are encouraged and supported to have some links with their mainstream peers.

Denholme Primary School is very proud of the RP and how it has developed into an integral part of school life for staff and pupils. We have a communication friendly environment throughout school with symbols and photographs to reinforce the written or spoken word.
