Autumn Term
Key Information:
Children can wear P.E. kits on a Wednesday and Thursday.
Homework will be given out on a Friday and collected in the following Wednesday. All instructions are provided in your child's homework book.
Spellings - Children will receive new spellings on a Monday to be tested on a Friday. In Year 6, we are using a phonics approach to learn our new words of the week.
Reading books - Children will choose their reading book from their class library, which is a set of age-appropriate and challenging reading books. It is expected that they read for at least 20 minutes a day. Children will also have the opportunity to borrow a book from the school library. Children should note all their reading in their reading journal.
English
Along with the rest of the school, we are spending the first two weeks
reading Flooded by Mariajo Illustrajo. We will be writing a diary entry,
telling the tale from the point of view of one of the animals.
Following this, we will be using the book Dragonology to then write our own
non-chronological report about our own 'invented' dragon. A key focus will
be developing our understanding of how grammar can help structure our
writing.
Maths
- Science
Our science topic is Living Things and their Habitats. Children will describe how living things are classified into broad groups according to common observable characteristics and based on similarities and differences, including micro- organisms, plants and animals. They will also learn to give reasons for classifying plants and animals based on specific characteristics. Topic
This term our topic is the Amazing Americas. We will be analysing different maps of the Americas, which show both Human and Physical Geography features of the continents. Children will be considering the different countries that make up North America and South America. The focus area in South America will be Brazil and children will consider both physical and human features of this large country. In North America, the focus will be on the USA. |
Don't forget! You can play Education City, Spelling Shed, Purple Mash and Times Table Rockstars at home!
